Guys, we are back with our VP44 powered truck Willard. Back on the road. Back on the dyno.
This one follows Myer and the Power Driven Diesel crew as we fix what held the truck back last time and put it to work again. Willard now runs a true Power Driven Diesel product where it counts with our in house 650 horsepower automatic, plus a set of budget friendly 75 horsepower injectors based on a Bosch RV275 nozzle while keeping the same 60 64 turbo. You ride along for real towing with a tall enclosed trailer, hear honest in-cab impressions, and then roll into dyno testing to see how the tunes stack up on a Cummins VP44.
The focus stays on usable diesel performance for the diesel truck community. Myer talks through clean power and controllable heat so a tow rig lives a long time, and why the right injector and tune combo matters more than chasing a number. Shift quality and chassis feel get attention too because a second gen that tracks straight and shifts predictably makes long grades simple.
On the road the new injectors are a touch hazier leaving a stop but settle in once the turbo lights, and freeway roll in stays clean. The transmission is the star of the trip with firm line pressure, a confident third gear lock, and a smooth locked three to four shift thanks to a custom plate that calms the overdrive event. Bilstein shocks take the float out of the truck so it feels planted with a heavy trailer. When the knob goes too high it shows why cranking the tune for towing just adds heat and haze, which makes the takeaway clear.
Back at the shop the dyno testing confirms what the seat says. The big tune edges out the top number, a mid tune nearly matches it with less boost and cleaner manners, and a lower tow tune feels effortless and steady. That balance of tow friendly EGT, solid shifting, and real world drivability is what makes this Power Driven Diesel setup work.
