We lined up a bone stock six liter Powerstroke against a 900 horsepower tow rig and then mapped out the future of our newest build, Sherpa.
In this episode, the team at Power Driven Diesel is diving into the world of six liter Fords with our brand new shop truck Sherpa and a monster of a build from our friend John Strada at Black Tie Race Fab. John’s six liter has proven itself with nearly one hundred thousand miles on his custom stainless turbo kit and still rips off seven second eighth mile passes while towing thousands of pounds. This video shows the contrast between a stock truck and a nearly thousand horsepower build while laying out the game plan to take Sherpa from bone stock to a powerhouse of its own. For the diesel performance community it is a perfect look at what is possible with the right upgrades, smart tuning, and real world durability.
One of the coolest parts of this video is seeing John’s setup in detail. His truck runs an Aggressor 80 turbo with compounds, RCD injectors, O ringed aluminum heads, billet pushrods, and a stage two cam, all tied together with the kind of clean stainless fabrication that Black Tie Race Fab is known for. Despite pushing close to a thousand horsepower this truck has proven itself on the street and the track, racking up countless miles in brutal Colorado winters while still pulling trailers and daily driving. Watching it light up the RPM range on the street is something every diesel guy will appreciate.
On the other side we have Sherpa, a 2006 six liter with under one hundred thousand miles that is basically untouched. Aside from a simple tune it is still stock down to the plastic intake tube. That makes it the perfect starting point for a true development build. In this video you will hear the vision for where Sherpa is headed, starting with fresh O ring heads, our new ported towing heads, and the compound turbo setup we have been developing over the past year and a half. The kit has been designed and tested for proper fitment on a virgin truck so we can ensure reliability and consistency when it is offered to customers.
We also break down what those first upgrades will look like, including a new set of 62 and 66 turbos, custom exhaust, intake, and fueling to match. The plan is to transform Sherpa into a reliable hard working truck that can still deliver big power on the dyno and the track, much like John’s tow rig. It is not just about chasing numbers, it is about building a truck that enthusiasts can learn from and replicate, showing what it takes to make real power while keeping drivability and durability in check.
If you are into diesel performance this video is loaded with the kind of details you will appreciate. From dyno numbers and injector sizing to turbocharger setups, towing performance, and real world cold weather reliability, it is a deep dive into what makes the six liter platform capable of far more than its reputation suggests. Whether you are a Cummins guy, a Ford loyalist, or just love seeing trucks make power, this is one you do not want to miss.
