Our first pulls hit 449 and 450 horsepower and then a clean 429 on tune five showed an even bigger story about heat, drivability, and how far this VP44-powered Cummins can go on the road to 500. In this video the crew at Power Driven Diesel straps Willard back on the dyno to test a new set of blind-tested injectors paired with an Aggressor 60-64 turbo, Quasdzilla tuning and a built transmission. With the stock air intake box and stock three inch exhaust still in place the goal was to see how much these injectors could add without changing anything else.
The dyno testing wasted no time showing results. On power level ten Willard laid down back to back 449 and 450 horsepower pulls which proved the truck had plenty of strength right out of the gate. The biggest surprise came when the team dropped to tune five. Power only fell to 429 but the run stayed dead clean and exhaust temps were much lower. Compared to earlier pulls with stock injectors the new setup started a little hotter but finished nearly 80 degrees cooler. Instead of climbing, EGTs leveled off which showed how much more efficient the injectors made the truck.
From there the crew tested other power levels to see where the truck liked to run. Tune six topped out around 1223 on EGT but tune five kept proving itself as the sweet spot. The run was smooth, power stayed strong and temps dropped enough to show this was the best balance for performance and reliability. Backing down from max tune only gave up about 20 horsepower but delivered a cleaner and cooler pull that would hold up better in real use.
By the end of the session it was clear the injector swap made a major difference. What looked like a 75 horsepower gain over the stock setup turned into a truck that ran cooler, stayed clean and still pushed well over 400 horsepower on a VP44. This kind of dyno testing shows what real diesel performance looks like. Instead of chasing peak numbers you see how different tunes affect horsepower and EGT and what actually makes sense for a truck that needs to work.
